I redesigned the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla interface to infuse Viking culture into the user interface and get the player invested in the atmosphere before playing.

I also wanted a cleaner and more organized user interface to enhance the user experience.

Game Interfaces have been sub-par these past few years and many list

  • Boxes encapsulating all the buttons
  • Little to no theming
  • Confusing navigation
  • Too much advertisement

as the main reasons. Moving forward, I kept these points in mind.

Warning Screen

The first screen the player sees is an opportunity to establish the game’s atmosphere. I’ve added a button instead of a timer so players can read it at their own pace.

Cultural Advisory

In the background is a Vegvísir and It’s believed it was used as a charm for safe travels. The symbol originates from many religions and cultures. I thought it was a fitting representation for a cultural advisory.

Main Menu

I moved advertisements to the “Animus Store”. In Assassin’s Creed, the Animus facilitates simulations to relive memories of deceased people. Due to this fact, the store’s design is modern.

At the bottom right, I have a “Switch Background Button”. The players can change the background when they’ve discovered new areas, adding to the game’s replayability.

Patch Notes

It gets updated often from new gameplay additions to fixed bugs. As a player, I want to quickly see if the announcements I’ve been waiting for have arrived. So I categorized each patch and condensed the page to get rid of the side scroller.

Settings

I condensed the settings to avoid a sidebar and simplified the slider design. Included are images to test the game’s brightness.

In-Game Store

The left side of the screen shows featured content that is new or coming soon. When your controller hovers over it, a learn more button will show. At the bottom, the “More Assassin’s Creed” button takes you to your console’s store to purchase other games in the franchise.
